Travel Alerts

If you are travelling to the US you must have the address and phone number of the place you will be staying while in the US available when you check in with your Canadian Airline. Whether it is in a hotel, with friends or family you will need all this information when you check in.

TRAVELLING WITH ID
Effective June 18th, 2007 -  Identity Screening Regulations -

As per Transport Canada, Identity Screening Regulations require all passengers who appear 12 years of age or older to present the following ID at check-in and before boarding:

One piece of valid government-issued PHOTO ID that shows name, date of birth, and gender.
OR
Two pieces of valid government-issued ID (without a photo) one of which shows name, date of birth, and gender.
AND
The name on the identification must match the name on the boarding pass.
For more information go to www.passengerprotect.gc.ca

However make a note that the Immigration people will always question you when travelling with young children not your own. If taking someone else children on a trip, be sure to carry a letter of consent from the parent and contact telephone numbers. It is not good policy to encourage children with a sense of humour to yell ”you are not my parents and I won’t go with you.”.

If you are an immigrant to Canada you need a Canadian Permanent Resident card when you travel abroad. You will not be allowed to board your bus, train or plane back to Canada without this card. Most people have their cards now. Please refer to www.cic.gc.ca for applications to get the card.

Passports.

The cost is $85.00 and they are valid for 5 years. Application processing time is an average of one month, maybe longer. More and more islands in the Caribbean require this document, so it is a good thing to think ahead. Passports required for all cruises. If you are not a Canadian National you may likely need a visa. Please ask for updated information at time of booking.  If you have family abroad it's best to keep your passport up to date to avoid the frustration of not being able to be with them should an emergency situation arise.

Not often, but sometimes we still have people who do not have a birth certificate. Lost while moving, stolen in a wallet and forgotten. Take a moment to check it out and set the wheels in motion for this very important piece of paper. Everything takes longer these days, and you do have to think ahead.

Health Advisories
Travel Health advisories are issued by the Canadian government Health Ministry. These two sources give some of the best worldwide coverage of current travel disease risks.

Malaria
For those travelling to these areas we suggest that you take the anti-malaria drugs available.  For local help please contact the local Health Unit for information on the "travel clinics."

Travelling elsewhere

For travellers not sure of any health concerns please check either the WHO-World Health Organization  or the above health advisory links for further information.

The Canadian government provides a frequently updated list of travel advisories worldwide. They are available at Canadian consulates; but also can be conveniently acessed on the Web at Travel Advisories - Worldwide.
